It was a hot and wet day. An other slow Indian summer day. Whatever clothes you wear soon get damp and stick to your skin like wet paper. Pearls of sweat trickle down here and there. Everything happens in slow motion... and the sun keeps pounding down from above, oblivious to the discomfort it is causing.
I was lost, somewhere between the town of Karnal, and an unfindable meditation centre. Once again in the middle of nowhere. My only companion was an oversize cow, which looked more lost than I was, but didn't seem to care as much. Munching on a plastic bag it would look up at me from time to time, then realise there was some plastic bag left, and return to its content rumination.
One more hour or so and I would find the Vipassana meditation centre. One more hour and I would enter a new dimension. No speaking for 10 days, just meditating. Free to explore the spirituality that is hidden so easily by day to day activities. With expert help and the perfect environment, I would have 10 days entirely to myself, to think, contemplate, meditate...
Would the days ahead be tough? Knowing myself, my character and its usual incompatibility with such environments I was trying to ready myself for a new test ahead. Somehow though, like a butterfly that doesn't know what lies ahead but goes anyway, I didn't think too much about it. It was just an other 'adventure'. An other 'experience'.
As I started walking again in the general direction of the next field, looking up to the horizon, I remembered the conversations I had had with others who had followed this course. All had spoken postively of it. Somehow it had helped. Help to relax, help to focus, escape your thoughts on the future, escape your thoughts on the past, escape the prisons that our confused minds can put us in, come back to enjoying the present moment for what it is, maybe even answer some questions about who I am, what I'm doing here...
