Turkish GirlThis is Bekir's daughter.

Bekir is a truck driver.

Peter and Christopher were cold and wet.

It was night and it was snowing.

Bekir invited them into his house.

Peter and Christopher were grateful.

+ 2 - 0 | § Bursa to Eskisehir: Plof, and the art of cycling through snow

peter__cold.jpg

It is 7.30 AM. I wake up in my own personal posh hotel room in Bursa, Turkey.

In half an hour, national Turkish television will arrive at reception, to film Peter and myself, as we wave goodbye to the city of Bursa.

Then we will hit the road again!

200kms of mountainous terrain lay ahead.

Snow, frostbite, careless truck drivers and endless uphill cycling...

Hamam massages and super comfortable king size double beds will be but a fading memory, soon to be replaced with raw adventure and slight masochism.

The road to Eskisehir begins!

+ 0 - 0 | § Bursa! A city of open arms!

Chris wondering what is going on A hot shower in the morning was a sign all was going to run smoothly here in Bursa!

Once İ got my bike fixed with the help from 20 or so school kids and a bike shop, it was time for a 360ways meeting.

On the agenda : meet the local Environmental Council,  the local Agenda 21 department, meet the the city council for Bursa to sign the Velo Mondial Charter, and lastly but not least, visit the city of Bursa!

Arriving in an unknown city, by bicycle, staying in a modest demeur, can make it look pretty tricky to understand how the city works. Here  is a good picture of Chris trying to work it out for himself!

+ 0 - 0 | § On the road again!! Istanbul to Bursa

It was a shock when the alarm went off at 6! Auto-mode: pack the rest of the stuff that was not ready the night before, find out not all fits in the bicycle bags, 10 minutes later find a way to get everything in, 5 minutes later, we're out of the Istanbul backpack for the last time, and into the dark morning streets...alone with our stuff and two bikes!

Chris back on the road!Right, well... lets get moving, towards the ferry and lets not miss it, this is the real departure! So there we are in a speed ferry, having got our bikes onboard with the cars, watching the sunrise from the east, and thinking to ourselves, thats the way we're heading...

An hour later we arrive. We have breakfast in the port of Yalova, a city that got heavily hit by the earthquake a few years back. We're reticent at getting back on the road, we enjoy our breakfast, have another coffee, give the bikes a good oiling, adjust the odds and ends until all is ready. No matter how much we fiddle with the bikes there still is something strange about their feel, they don't feel as natural as we remember them: slightly wobbly, slightly overweight, the tyres need pumping a little more, the chain is too long, or something!

+ 0 - 0 | § 360ways to leave Istanbul

Western Turkey The kebab season is over for us here in Istanbul!

The timing was not difficult to organize as we’ve had two months to prepare. We have our Iranian and Pakistani visas, our bikes are fixed, the winter equipment has arrived, and there’s only one thing we desperately want to do: Get out of here!

Get back on the bikes! Move forwards! Feel the adventure in foreign countryside! Sweat some more, camp in new places, witness the ever changing scenery day by day! To then come back to earth in the next city and understand where the hell we’ve landed!

Thank you to everyone who left comments in our last news update, it did get us thinking. And so the results for the chosen route is….
