Bicycle art!

The traffic in Genoa was just ridiculous when we arrived, and it’s no surprise we lost each other. We didn’t have a map of the city at the time, but it wasn’t difficult to figure out how the city was structured as we followed the dense traffic along the one-way road, to reach the centre, which itself did not show off much of a structure.

First night in Italy

The midday heat was hitting down hard, as, slowly, meticulously, Peter and I packed our bags and saddled our bikes for the next leg of the trip. The week-end of partying at Trixi and Julian’s mansion had worn its toll over our confused bodies, full of knots from the previous 1200 kms. Alex and Roshana, like an island of peace in the mayhem of our visit had ensured that we would get some rest before heading off to our next destination... Italy!

What would Napoleon Bonaparte say if he knew that two British citizens were to ride recumbent bicycles in the opposite direction down the road that he had used 200 years earlier. When Napoleon ‘escaped’ from the island of Elba, he arrived in Antibes where his fellow supporters were waiting for him to embark on the journey that would take him through the mountains, “de clocher en clocher jusqu’aux tours de Notre Dame” via Digne-Les-Bains, Gap and Grenoble, growing his army all the way to Paris where he regained political power to prepare for the final battle... Would Napoleon have made it across the mountains if he had used a recumbent bicycle?
